Switzerland dedicates the first posthumous review to the great artist Giuliano Vangi!
The exhibition "Giuliano Vangi: il disegno" was inaugurated on Saturday, May 25th at the Centro Culturale, Spazio Officina in Chiasso. This is the first posthumous exhibition dedicated to a brilliant artist universally considered one of the most important European sculptors of the late twentieth century.
Curated by Marco Fagioli and Nicoletta Ossanna Cavadini, the exhibition also features the signature of master Mario Botta, a great friend of Giuliano Vangi and a companion in professional challenges, who designed the layout of the entire space.
The exhibition focuses on drawing as the medium through which Vangi developed and expressed his feelings and impressions, the essential starting point of his thought process, and the first step in the execution that ultimately transformed into sculpture by the end of the creative process. Vangi's creative force led him to experiment with various graphic techniques, including etching, burin, aquatint, and drypoint, a technique he considered ideal. The sign or grapheion, as a creative and original act, led him to redraw and rework the same theme multiple times, so that the graphics could fully express the artist's poetics.
The exhibition features over a hundred study drawings in pencil and ink with white highlights and watercolors, in both small and large formats, and a bronze sculpture. This selection of his graphic production spans from 1944, the year he began making academic drawings, up to 2023, with works of great emotional value: a total of eighty years of artistic activity, making this exhibition a unique event in the exhibition landscape.
Don't miss this amazing exhibition!
